Australia pockets Chappell-hadlee Trophy

-

Australia defeated New Zealand 3-0 in a three-match ODI series played in the city of Cairns in the north of Australia. The series, played for the Chappell-hadlee Trophy, was originally planned for March, 2020, but had to be rescheduled — after one completed game — due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Two of the three matches were tight affairs. Cameron Green rescued his team from danger — Australia was 44 for 5 chasing 233 — in the first ODI with an unbeaten ■9, Mitchell Starc excelled with bat and ball in the second, and Steve Smith scored a century in the third.

It was a reassuring series win for the home team after an embarrassing loss to Zimbabwe just a few days earlier. Part-time leg-spinner Ryan Burl (in pic) took five wickets as Zimbabwe defeated Australia by three wickets in a nip-and-tuck tussle in Townsville. Australia had already pocketed the series by winning the first two matches.
