ORDER FOR 737 BY GECAS

In the first week of October 2012, GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) revealed that the leasing and finance company has finalised an order with for up to 100 B737 aircraft. The $6 billion order was first announced as a commitment at the Farnboroug­h Air Show. The order calls for 75, 737 MAX 8, 10 Next-Generation 737-800 and includes an option for an additional 15 737-800. The report by Airbus also predicts that about 10,350 aircraft will be replaced by new efficient models by 2031. “Aside from growth in internatio­nal traffic, by 2031 four of the world’s biggest traffic flows will all be domestic—the US, China, Intra Western Europe and India—and these account for a third of world traffic,” says John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. “In 20 years from now, China’s domestic passenger traffic will overtake the US domestic traffic to become number one. Aviation is not just essential for internatio­nal commerce, but also for domestic economies too.”
