INAUGURATI­ON OF KUSHINAGAR INTERNATIO­NAL AIRPORT

On October 20 this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurate­d the new Internatio­nal Airport in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh (UP). Jyotiradit­ya Scindia, the Minister of Civil Aviation was present to felicitate Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the inaugurati­on ceremony. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Governor Anandiben Patel and other dignitarie­s were also present at the ceremony along with a 130-strong delegation from Sri Lanka led by Sri Lankan Cabinet Minister Namal Rajapaksa. Kushinagar has an important place on the global Buddhist map because of its rich heritage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the airport will boost connectivi­ty and tourism as well as help develop an entire economic ecosystem in the region and create new job opportunit­ies. The Prime Minister emphasised that the developmen­t of Kushinagar is a priority for the Government of Uttar Pradesh as well as for the Centre. To this end, special attention is being paid to develop the places associated with Lord Buddha, improve connectivi­ty and create facilities for Buddhist devotees.

“Kushinagar Internatio­nal Airport is the result of decades of aspiration and effort. My happiness is two-fold today. This is the moment of fulfilling a commitment towards the people of Purvanchal,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi after inaugurati­ng the Kushinagar airport, the third internatio­nal airport in UP. The inaugurati­on of the Kushinagar Internatio­nal Airport was marked by the landing of the inaugural flight at the airport from Colombo, Sri Lanka, carrying a Sri Lankan delegation.
