COM­MIS­SION­ING OF IN­SHORE PA­TROL VES­SEL ICGS RAJDHWAJ

The eighth in­shore pa­trol ves­sel ICGS Rajdhwaj, de­signed and built by the Gar­den Reach Ship­builders and En­gi­neers, Kolkata, was com­mis­sioned at Chen­nai on De­cem­ber 11, 2013, by G.K. Vasan, Union Min­is­ter of Ship­ping, in the pres­ence of Vice Ad­mi­ral A.G. Thapliyal, Direc­tor Gen­eral In­dian Coast Guard and other se­nior dig­ni­taries. The 50-me­tre IPV is equipped with the most ad­vanced and so­phis­ti­cated nav­i­ga­tional and com­mu­ni­ca­tion sen­sors and equip­ment. The ship has a max­i­mum speed of 31.5 knots (about 58 kmph), eco­nom­i­cal speed of 14 knots (26 kmph), en­durance of 1,500 nau­ti­cal miles (about 2,778 km), in­dige­nously-built 30mm gun mount with fire con­trol sys­tem.
