Rahul names CBI of­fi­cial, says he helped Mallya es­cape

THE Congress on Satur­day con­tin­ued to raise ques­tions over the Vi­jay Mallya con­tro­versy, and charged the gov­ern­ment with help­ing the fugi­tive es­cape the law.

Party pres­i­dent Rahul Gandhi named a se­nior CBI of­fi­cial, al­leg­ing he helped eco­nomic of­fender Vi­jay Mallya, as well as PNB fraud-ac­cused Ni­rav Mo di and Mehu lC ho ksi .“CB IJt. Di­rec­tor, AK Sharma, weak­ened Mallya’s “Look Out” no­tice, al­low­ing Mallya to es­cape. Mr Sharma, a Gu­jarat cadre of­fi­cer, is the PM’s blue-eyed-boy in the CBI. The same of­fi­cer was in charge of Ni­rav Modi & Me­hul Choksi’s es­cape plans. O oops ... in­ves­ti­ga­tion ,” R ah ult wee ted.

The CBI re­sponded say­ing the charges were “base­less”.

Congress spokesper­son Jaiveer Shergill, mean­while, said the gov­ern­ment was not be­ing a pro­tec­tor of pub­lic money, but had turned into a travel agency, fa­cil­i­tat­ing “fraud and happy safe fly­ing” for bank loan de­fault­ers. “The man­ner in which in­dus­try of ‘bank­ing scams’ has flour­ished and out­bound traf­fic of ‘scam­sters’ has in­creased, it is clear BJP is more loyal to ‘Con­Man’ than to ‘Com­mon Man’.”

Since the NDA gov­ern­ment came to power, 23 fugi­tives have fled the coun­try, dup­ing pub­lic banks of as much as `50,000 crore; but no probes have been launched and no eco­nomic of­fender has been brought back, he added.
