DCPU foils attempt to conduct child marriage
Malappuram: The District Child Protection Unit has intervened in one more case of child marriage and got a court injunction order to the family of the girl. DCPU officers intervened in the case on Friday when a pre-marriage function was held at Ponnani. “The girl was a minor and a pre-marriage function in which certain gift was given to her. We approached the family and handed over an injunction order preventing the parents from conducting the marriage before the girl turns major,” said a DCPU outreach worker who accompanied the child development project officer. As per latest figures with the authorities, DCPU has intervened in 26 cases in 2018.
