While there is no cer­tainty that a ma­ha­gath­band­han to take on the NDA would be in place be­fore the 2019 elec­tions, the Congress party’s chances of head­ing such a coali­tion, if and when it is formed, might not be guar­an­teed (TJS Ge­orge’s Point of View, Sept. 9). But Congress pres­i­dent Rahul Gandhi would be do­ing his party a big favour if he steps aside where the PM nom­i­na­tion is con­cerned and chooses to field an­other suit­able can­di­date, such as Chi­dambaram or Mal­likar­jun Kharge. PC, how­ever, would be a poor choice as he has lit­tle ac­cept­abil­ity across the coun­try and he, along with his son Karti, is un­der the lens of the in­ves­ti­gat­ing agen­cies for al­leged eco­nomic of­fences.
