Once the prospective parents have registered online, Special Adoption Agencies (SAA) do a Home Study Report (HSR), where the parents-to-be have to pay `6,000. In HSR, parents’ criminal records, physical and mental health and holistic environment are checked with validating documents To adopt a baby that is less than a year old, the composite age of both parents should not exceed 90. And parents with composite age of over 90 are entitled to adopt children above the age of one

Post HSR, prospective parents have to undergo a waiting period of minimum two years for final agreement from the district Judge To curb judicial delay, the recent amendment in JJ Act says the chairman of DCPU can provide final orders in adoption procedures. Once the child is given for adoption, follow-up procedures are done by NGOs
