Con­trac­tors stir near air base

Chen­nai: The Mil­i­tary En­gi­neer­ing Ser­vices Builders As­so­ci­a­tion protested non­pay­ment of dues, out­side Air Force Sta­tion (AFS) Tam­baram on Satur­day and an­nounced an in­def­i­nite strike un­til con­trac­tors are paid for the civil works that have been un­der­taken at the air force base. Mem­bers claimed that the de­fence min­istry had de­faulted on `10 crore of pay­ments for civil works. “Fol­low­ing our meet­ing with De­fence Min­is­ter Nir­mala Sithara­man, `250 crore was sanc­tioned to pay dues to mil­i­tary con­trac­tors across the coun­try, but Chen­nai con­trac­tors are yet to ben­e­fit from this,” said K Srini­vasan, an as­so­ci­a­tion leader, who led the stir.
