Nalini Chidambaram gets advance bail in Saradha chit fund scam case
She has to surrender before the Chief Judicial Magistrate and furnish necessary sureties
THE Madras High Court has granted interim advance bail to Nalini, wife of former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who feared arrest in connection with the Saradha chit fund multi-crore scam case in Kolkatta.
Justice G K Illanthiraiyan granted the relief at a special sitting at the High Court, on Saturday.
Granting the relief for four weeks with a condition that she should surrender before the Chief Judicial Magistrate and furnish necessary sureties, the judge said that she should also appear before the jurisdictional court concerned and obtain regular anticipatory bail.
The CBI had filed a charge sheet against her, alleging that she had received `1.4 crore from Saradha group of companies in Kolkatta, which was mired with a chit fund scam running to several thousand crores of rupees.
Nalini contended that the present case is the latest in the series of false ones foisted against her and her family members. She claimed that she, a senior advocate, had received the fees from Saradha Realty Limited on behalf of Manor anj ana Sinh, in connection with Positive TV which was valued at `200 crore.
The CBI had already recorded, in an earlier supplementary charge sheet that `1.4 crore was paid to her towards legal expenses, she pointed out. The CBI cannot change the colour of the payment from a legal fee to bribe money, she contended.
