Q) How big is e-sports in In­dia? Enough for a gamer to make a ca­reer out of it?

Com­pared to global sce­nario, eS­ports in In­dia is grow­ing at a mind bog­gling pace. We are see­ing a huge growth in the num­ber of gamer par­tic­i­pants and nu­mer­ous tour­na­ments be­ing an­nounced. With direc­tions and in­vested en­er­gies from en­demic and non-en­demic brands, we are ex­cited to see the tournament prize pools grad­u­ally ris­ing to in­ter­na­tional stan­dards. To give a bench­mark, ESL In­dia Premier­ship has a pool of `1 crore this year. We also re­cently saw e-Sports mak­ing a daz­zling de­but at Asian games 2018 (as a demon­stra­tion sport) and In­dia seems to have the sec­ond high­est num­ber of teams that qual­i­fied for the event. The evolv­ing gam­ing land­scape has made it eas­ier for play­ers to choose gam­ing as their ca­reer path. The in­creased fre­quency of tour­na­ments has al­lowed gamers to earn good money, build so­cial con­nec­tions and cre­ate a well-rounded life­style. Also, it’s not just the play­ing, eS­ports brings a lot of al­lied op­por­tu­ni­ties for play­ers to make a ca­reer in.

Q) What is HyperX do­ing to pro­mote the gam­ing cul­ture in In­dia?

HyperX is glob­ally try­ing to bring a dif­fer­ence to the gam­ing in­dus­try. We are pas­sion­ate about the gam­ing com­mu­nity in In­dia too and have been en­cour­ag­ing na­tional tour­na­ments like ESL In­dia Premier­ship. We also work with gam­ing cafés to cre­ate a plat­form for gamers to com­pete on and pre­pare for var­i­ous global gam­ing tour­na­ments. HyperX also takes pur­pose­ful ef­forts in ex­tend­ing sup­port to the In­dian gam­ing teams with high qual­ity pe­riph­er­als. We be­lieve that the “gamer” ex­pe­ri­ence mat­ters and we strive to im­prove and broaden our prod­uct of­fer­ings to ac­com­mo­date the lat­est gam­ing trends.

Q) Do you think RGB is just a trend or the fu­ture of gam­ing pe­riph­er­als?

Pri­mary re­quire­ment for most pro­fes­sional gamers is a high per­for­mance sys­tem as they want bet­ter ac­cu­racy, pre­ci­sion and a game spe­cific au­dio/ video setup with­out a lag. RGB, how­ever, has caught the eye of the mass gamers as it en­hances the vis­ual as­pect of the pe­riph­er­als and in turn, en­hances the over­all gam­ing ex­pe­ri­ence. A va­ri­ety of gamers see RGB as a key fac­tor while look­ing to pur­chase a new prod­uct, some­times it even means com­pro­mis­ing on per­for­mance.

Q) How often do you game and what are you play­ing these days?

Cur­rently, find­ing the needed time to game isn’t as easy as it used to be. But when­ever I get some time, CS:GO and PUBG Mo­bile are my go-to games.

Q) What’s your pick - PUBG or Fort­nite?

I haven’t per­son­ally played Fort­nite yet but our HyperX stream­ers love the game for its ar­cade’ish feel. Since I have played PUBG on PC and Mo­bile, that’s my pick.
