Tehelka - - FICTION -

‘Writer Kalki was the first to serialise fiction through Ponniyin Selvan, which was copied by writers of detective fiction. Sujatha’s Ganesh-Vasanth series was a huge hit and so was weekly magazine Ananda Vikatan’s Thuppariyum Sambu, a comical detective. A novel a month format was popularised by newspaper Dinamalar through the series Rani Muthu, following which writers Pattukotai Prabhakar and Rajesh Kumar churned out over 100 novels. Thanks to television serials, crime fiction is no longer popular.’
