Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s films were made on shoestring budgets, using actors’ personal clothes and houses. This speaks volumes about the sheer strength of the scripts. I particularly like Milli because it is able to narrate a simple story through the lives of two ordinary individuals. The triumph of life over death, good over evil and resilience over troubles manages to strike a chord with the audience. The characters and situations were extremely realistic. It was as if hearing a story about someone we might know.
