Jakoi, at Delhi’s As­sam Bhawan, has ex­cel­lent authen­tic As­samese food. The param­para thali comes with dal, two types of veg­eta­bles, khar, fish tenga, steamed hilsa, pi­geon or duck curry, as much rice as you want and a dessert of puffed rice, cream and honey. The flavours are very del­i­cate and the fish tenga and the steamed hilsa/bhapa ilish are divine, not smoth­ered in gin­ger, gar­lic, onion, or tomato. There is a fish del­i­cacy that is cooked and served in a bam­boo hol­low. They also have these balls of pop­py­seeds and mus­tard that you can mash up and eat with your rice.
