STUNTMAN FALLS TO DEATH, ACTRESS HURT
Bungee jumping trainer dies in fall during show at mall inauguration in Greater Noida
New Delhi: The opening ceremony of Great Adventure Mall in Greater Noida was marred by tragedies when a bungee jumping trainer while performing a stunt fell to his death and actress Sayali Bhagat suffered fractures in a separate car racing event.
The opening ceremony of the Great Adventure Mall in neighbouring Greater Noida on Saturday was marred by tragedies as a bungee jumping trainer fell to death while performing a stunt and Bollywood actress Sayali Bhagat suffered fracture in a car racing event.
Union tourism minister Subodh Kant Sahay was the chief guest at the inauguration of Great Adventure Mall, situated opposite Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida. The minister left soon after inaugurating the mall.
The first tragedy struck when Shailendra Kumar, a bungee jumping trainer, fell head first from the seventh floor of the mall. “He lost grip of the rope that was supporting him while performing the stunt,” a Noida police official said.
The crowd that had gathered to watch the event was horrified to see Shailendra drop from the height and then writhing in pain on the ground. Kumar was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The mall promoters EMR Infrastructure had planned a mega opening ceremony with special stunts for the attendants.
While the event organisers and the mall management were still grappling to come to terms with the tragedy, actress Sayali Bhagat, who was invited for the inauguration of the mall, met an accident while participating in a racing event at the mall.
“The stunt was being enacted on a jeep being driven by Sayali Bhagat. The jeep turned turtle during the show due to which Bhagat sustained a fracture in her right arm,” said Gajendra Singh, spokesperson for the SSP ( Gautam Budh Nagar).
Officials said Bhagat sustained fracture as she got caught in the jeep that lay overturned.
She was taken to a private hospital where she received treatment and her condition is reported to be stable.
