Nupur eludes CBI, set to appear in SC today

- S. S. NEGI

City dentist Nupur Talwar, facing certain arrest by the CBI over the mysterious murder of her daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj in Noida nearly four years ago, on Thursday moved the Supreme Court seeking to quash a non- bailable arrest warrant issued by the trial judge. The CBI, meanwhile, continued making desperate efforts to nab her throughout Thursday but was unsuccessful.

A special CBI court in Ghaziabad issued the arrest warrant on Tuesday

Nupur lawyer says she’s not fleeing from the law; CBI fails to locate her

after she failed to appear before it.

Nupur’s counsel Mukul Rohatgi said she was not “fleeing from the law”, and made a special mention of her petition for urgent hearing. But a bench of Justices A. K. Patnaik and Swatanter Kumar declined any immediate hearing, but posted her petition for Friday. Nupur’s counsel said she will appear in the Supreme Court on Friday.

The CBI said it conducted searches in Delhi and Noida, but was unable to trace her.

A bench of Justices Patnaik and K. S. Khehar had earlier agreed to hear her petition seeking a review of the Supreme Court verdict upholding the trial court order converting the CBI closure report into chargesheet against her and dentist husband Rajesh Talwar.

The pendency of her review plea was used by Nupur as an opportunity to approach the highest court directly, bypassing the high court.
