A 35- year- old man was burnt to death on Tuesday allegedly by a 23- year- old tantrik who has been arrested by the northeast district police.

Police officials said the accused, identified as Pervez, feared getting exposed by the deceased Ishtikar, a vegetable vendor, whom he cheated by taking huge sums of money on the pretext of making him richer. Parvez was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly burning Ishtikar to death after giving him intoxicated drink on Tuesday night.

“Parvez cheated Ishtikar by taking huge sums of money on the pretext of making him rich. After sometime, when the deceased felt that he was being cheated by Parvez and his friend Yakub, he confronted them and demanded his money back. He also threatened to take the matter to the police.

The accused Parvez called Ishtikar to his office and made him consume alcohol laced with some poisonous substance

The accused then hatched a plan to kill Ishtikar,” said deputy commissioner of police ( northeast) Sanjay Kumar Jain.

On the fateful day, Parvez called Ishtikar to his office and made him consume alcohol which was laced with some poisonous material.

“Ishtikar became unconscious after consuming the alcohol. Parvez and Yakub took him on a motorcycle, poured petrol on Ishtikar and burned him. They hid the motorcycle among the bushes in the jungle and escaped,” he said.
