- AGE CORRESPONDENT

It was an action- packed third day at the Army Golf Course as Viraj Madappa played a blinder of a round to climb the standings in the Usha IGU Delhi junior golf championship on Thursday.

Madappa, who started the day on an overall score of three- over 147, hit a two- under 70 to take a one- stroke lead over Manu Gandas.

While Gandas had a level par score on the day, Day One leader Mohan Sardar could not adjust to the changing winds and finished with a dismal nine over 81. Rajasthan’s Prakhar Asawa, who has been consistent throughout, was tied second with Gandas.

Madappa teed off on the 10th hole to score birdies on the 1st, 5th, 8th and 17th holes.

But bogeys on the 2nd and 6th hole came as a momentary setback.

Delhi’s Honey Basioya also had a good day as he scored a oneunder 71

It was his clinical putting and some scintillating driving that saved the day for him and put Madappa among the top contenders for the trophy.

After an ordinary start to the tournament, Delhi’s Honey Basioya also had a good day as he scored a one- under 71. But his efforts could only fetch him the sixth place on the leader board.

Another rookie who shone on the day was Category A player Shubhankar Sharma. Sharma carded a three- under 69 by hitting as many as five birdies. But his previous performance of seven- under 151 left him in fifth place with an overall score of 220.
