ROOT TARGETS MORE SUCCESS WITH ENGLAND

-

Young England and Yorkshire batsman Joe Root grabbed the opportunity at Mohali to make his mark with an unbeaten 57 to follow up on his impressive performance in the Test series here last year.

Given his bustling approach in the fourth onedayer, Root looks to be one for the long haul and though the present series has been lost, is keen to make the most of his chances. “As individuals, we have got a lot to play for,” he said on match eve here. “We have a big series coming up in New Zealand. A lot of people will try to make a strong case for that. You want to win any international game. A lot rides on it, playing for the country. Everyone in the change- room will have that mentality going into tomorrow.”

“Obviously we’re very disappointed with the way the series has gone as a team. It’s been nice to score some runs and put in a few performances but it always feels a little bit better when you come out winning.”

The 22- year- old said he was pleased with the way his career was shaping up. “It’s just nice to be a part of it. It’s all happened really quickly for me. I’m just trying to find my feet and take it in my stride and enjoy every minute of it.

“It’s what you dream about and I am enjoying every minute. I just take it day by day and keep trying to improve. To keep trying to be a better player, keep trying to contribute to winning games for England.”
