LIFE’S A BEACH..

- ● VIPASHA SINHA

If one’s exercise regimen is dragging due to boredom, there’s nothing better, say city fitness trainers, than going to the beach — to work out. This weekend fitness enthusiasts will flood the beach in Chennai to participate in beach boot camps starting from 5 am, this time of year being ideal for such working out.

Celebrity fitness trainer Alkhas Joseph has people write to him, asking for advice on fitness, diet plans and so on. He thought that having everybody come to one spot and work out would enable him to help a lot more of them.

It’s natural, he says, to get bored of the gym routine, muscles get acclimatised too to an unvarying level of stress. They need steady and sustained challenging for one’s fitness level to be maintained.

“The boot camp could be a chance to try out something more which is fun and refreshing,” he says.

In this high- energy routine, participants are made to do a variety of workouts. “We start with stretching, the regular warm- up and move to spot jogging, jogging, lunges, squats — it’s a mix of everything. Each person burns around 600700 calories,” Joseph says. “And here, we also experience the true joys of nature, watch the sunrise. People must adopt a healthy lifestyle and there could be no better place to do that than at the beach.”

And yes, he is sure the timing for the camp is appropriate! “The truth is, half the world is awake.”
