Series of rallies lined up for Varun in UP
BJP MP Varun Gandhi is all set to hold a series of rallies in Uttar Pradesh from September.
Mr Gandhi has already held two major rallies in Bareilly and Sultanpur in May this year and will resume his rallies once the monsoon is over.
According to sources, Mr Gandhi will kick off the second phase of rallies with one in Fatehpur Sikri on September 15 and another one in Bahraich on October 2.
Other rallies are being planned in Shravasti and Orai in November and December.
In each of these rallies, one national leader will be present along with Mr Gandhi. In Bareilly, BJP president Rajnath Singh had addressed the rally along with Mr Gandhi and in Sultanpur, Mr Nitin Gadkari was present.
In the Fatehpur Sikri rally, senior party leader L. K. Advani is scheduled to be present and Ms Sushwa Swaraj will share the dais with Mr Gandhi in Bahraich.
Party sources said that Mr Gandhi will mobilise party workers, particularly the youth, through his rallies in Uttar Pradesh.
The BJP MP, however, is unlikely to talk Hindutva in his rallies now and will focus on development — rather, lack of it — and issues related to poor law and order, corruption and inflation.
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi is expected to remain busy with elections in Delhi, Rajasthan, MP and Chhattisgarh — all scheduled at the end of the year and Mr Gandhi will continue to hold the fort till then.
The state unit of the BJP, for some strange reason, insists that it has no information about Mr Varun Gandhi’s rallies even though leaders in Agra and Bahraich have already begun preparing for the events. “We have not received any formal communication from the party about these rallies. We have also learnt form the media that these rallies are being planned,” said a senior party functionary.
