A day after a 19- year- old boy was killed in police firing near Connaught Place, the traffic wing of the Delhi police has urged the youth not to create havoc on bikes or strict action will be taken against them.

According to the traffic police, several cases of rioting and criminal assault have been registered and hundreds of challans have been issued against bikers during the last two months.

“These incidents of motorcycle riders performing stunts and indulging in serious traffic violations are illegal and reprehensible. The Delhi police will initiate criminal action against any person indulging in such nuisance and aggressive behaviour. Action shall also be taken against motorcycle riders indulging in traffic violations such as dangerous driving, overspeeding, riding without helmets, triple riding etc. The motorcycles and driving licenses of such riders shall be impounded,” said a senior police official.

The official added that if any weapon is recovered from the riders, appropriate action will be taken against them. Cases shall also be instituted against the registered owners of these vehicles and their liability shall be fixed for illegal use of their vehicles.

Meanwhile, the postmortem of Karan Pandey, who was killed in police firing, was conducted at the Maulana Azad Medical Hospital. A panel of three doctors conducted the postmortem. However, his body was not handed over to his family due to shortage of time. Now, his family will be able to perform his last rites on Tuesday.

The police has lodged an FIR in connection with the incident for creating havoc, obstructing police officials from performing their duty and pelting stones at the policemen.

The police will interrogate injured Puneet to ascertain the identity of other bikers.
