On the bride side of things

Bridal makeup is not a day’s job. One needs to prepare months in advance to look like a million dollars on the D- Day

- DR RASHMI SHETTY

Bridal makeup is one of the biggest beauty challenges and the preparations must begin at least three to six months prior to the D- Day. Preparing for the special day can be a stressful matter; so it’s very important that one should eat right to ensure you have a healthy skin and a healthy attitude. Here are a few guidelines to get you through the most crucial part of your life. When you have three to six months time in hand:

• First and foremost consult the right doctor.

• Right nutrition and a proper diet intake are important for a beautifully glowing skin.

• Supplements rich in protein, calcium, iron, vitamin B3, B12, B6 and anti- oxidants are very important for nourishing the skin. • Weddings can be really stressful and this can lead to acne, breakouts and rashes. Those who cannot handle stress well need to make sure that they apply and also take in supplements rich in vitamin A,C, E and Co- enzyme Q10. • Daily work out regime has to be followed such as yoga and your routine exercises. They are not only a good stress buster, but also help in releasing the right hormones as they improve the blood circulation. • Start on the right peels and medi- facials that are ideal for your skin type. It’s ideal that you commence your skincare routine at least three months in advance because acne and pigmentation do not clear up easily. You can also try laser and light treatment for any unevenness in complexion or to treat old acne pit marks. • Make sure you get cream and oil massages done to keep your skin exfoliated. Focus on the feet, hands and neck. • For those considering laser hair removal, it is ideal to do it at least three months in advance. • For the hair, besides the oiling, washing, and conditioning, I’ll also suggest mesotherapy which is an effective treatment to strengthen weak and thin hair. When you have one month to go:

• All of the above has to be followed.

• For tired looking eyes, I recommend the under eye filler. Lip filler helps in plumping the lips slightly, which softens your face further, making you look more glamorous.

• If you suffer from excessive perspiration or hyper hydrosis, this is the right time to try botox injections. One week before the wedding: • Do not start anything new in terms of treatment because sometimes it can result in things going the other way round.

• Make sure you have the mildest peels or medi- facials.

• Botox is a great way to shape your eyebrow to give you that glamorous arch.

• Get regular hydration, exfoliation, dermabration and peels and make sure you do not ignore the basics like sunscreen and moisturiser. Your SOS kit for the big day: • Calandula or caladryl mixed with very mild steroid as an emergency pack in case of a break out or a rash. • Since you’re going to be wearing makeup for long hours, keep a hydrating mist with you at all times. • Derma- shield ointment or petroleum jelly if you’re allergic to metal or any fabric. Works best if the jewellery doesn’t agree to your skin.
