BJP gears up for rally on power tariff

-

New Delhi, Aug. 8: Stepping up pressure on the Delhi government over increasing power tariff in the capital ahead of the Assembly polls, the BJP will hold a rally on August 11 at Ramlila Grounds here.

The “Bijli Andolan” rally is expected to involve over three lakh party cadres, legislators, councillors, members of all 14 districts and 280 mandal units, a Delhi BJP statement said.

“We are expecting more than four lakh people to attend this rally as a mark of historic protest against power tariff hikes,” a BJP spokesperson said.

“Over the last couple of years, power tariffs have been hiked in the city by at least 72 per cent putting an unbearable burden on common households already bearing the brunt of very high inflation due to faulty policies of Congress- led UPA government at the Centre and the Sheila Dikshit government in Delhi,” the spokesman said.

The Delhi BJP unit is planning to put up banners and hoardings across the city with messages “exposing double speak of the Congress government over the loot and scoot policy of the Delhi government, robbing consumers of thou- sands of crores of rupees with unjustified power tariff hikes,” it said.

The party has formulated 19 special committees to prepare for the rally and two “chariots” with LCD screens have been made to expose the Sheila Dikshit government, by screening special films which expose the dubious role of the Congress government in increasing power tariffs, it said.
