Apps to track crimes, T& D losses, health in the offing
With innovation taking over e- governance projects at the central and the state level, the use of information communication technologies ( ICT) is giving a huge fillip to IT and ITes companies.
Companies like SAP Labs India, Airtel ( with IRCTC for railway booking via Airtel Money) and others are working with government institutions to modernise services and ease them by cutting costs and going online.
SAP Labs India is working on a Smart Grid project with the central and state governments where it can reduce transmission and distribution ( T& D) losses by tracking power supply from power station to the end- user. “The whole supply chain will automatised. Even pilferages can be tracked through the smart grid project,” Deb Deep Sengupta, chief operating officer, SAP India, told this correspondent without revealing the investment in this project.
In Andhra Pradesh, SAP Labs has tied up with the finance department, government of Andhra Pradesh, to better financial transactions and transparency in operations.
“We will empower all our stakeholders with efficient HR solutions and financial system to better manage public funds and budget,” said P. V. Ramesh, principal secretary, finance department ( R& E) government of Andhra Pradesh.
SAP Labs has also launched three new applications — Rakshak, TracOHealth and Milk Cooperative Experience. While TracOHealth tracks the health of children under the National Rural Health Mission ( NRHM) on the UID platform, SAP Rakshak offers information to security agencies on crimes occuring across states to help in better law enforcement. Meanwhile, the Milk Cooperative Experience helps milk cooperatives plan their production and distribution based on the procurement data.
Going ahead, the focus will be on the covergence of cloud, mobile, social media and big data, said Suprakash Chaudhuri, managing director, SAP India & sub- continent.
