A 19- year- old Delhi University student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in east Delhi’s Krishna Nagar and left a video message on her mobile phone accusing her neighbours of harassing her which forced her to take the extreme step. The incident took place on Wednesday.

The police said that after watching the video, they registered a case of abatement of suicide under Section 306 IPC. However, nobody has been arrested so far. “We are examining the claims made in the video by the girl and her family in their statements,” said a police official associated with the probe in the case.

The deceased, identified as Raveena, 19, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room on Wednesday night.

“Her father, who works with a Hindi newspaper, discovered her body when he went to her room to call her for dinner after returning from office. She had left a suicide note on the table saying that reason of her death is in a video message in her mobile phone,” said a police official.

The police was informed about the incident at around 1 pm after which a team rushed to the spot. A crime team was sent to the house and when the police screened her mobile phone, it found a video in which she claimed that she was depressed as two brothers and their sister living in her locality had been regularly harassing her.

Her father also told the police that the trio used to harass her daughter who was studying B. Com through correspondence from DU over the past several months.

“We have identified the three persons who have been mentioned in the suicide video by the deceased and are questioning them,” the investigating officials said, adding that, “If we will find that, indeed, they were harassing the girl they will be arrested.”

Officials said they are questioning girl’s parents to know exactly on what she was being harassed.
