The BJP’s PM- designate Narendra Modi has been thanking world leaders on Twitter as congratulatory messages continue to pour in from different parts of the world.

“In our conversation, @BarackObama & I talked about further strengthening IndiaUSA strategic partnership that will help both nations,” he said in a tweet. US President Obama had called up Mr Modi after the BJP’s landslide victory in the Lok Sabha polls.

The US, which had refused Mr Modi a visa in 2005 in the wake of the 2002 communal riots in Gujarat when he was chief minister, only ended his boycott of him in February this year.

While the US may have shunned Mr Modi all these years, Mr Modi, before his party’s thumping victory, had said that foreign rela- tions cannot be “influenced” by incidents related to individuals. Among others, Mr Modi has also thanked leaders of Japan, Russia, Spain, Nepal, Canada, Germany and South Africa, besides the UN SecretaryGeneral and the Dalai Lama.

“I thank President Putin for his good wishes. Looking forward to making our relations with Russia even stronger in the years to come,” tweeted Mr Modi. He further said: “India- Russia friendship has stood the test of time. We will further strengthen our relations in a wide range of fields.” Mr Modi also mentioned Japan in his tweets, speaking of his experience of working with the East Asian economic powerhouse. “Personally, I have a wonderful experience of working with Japan as CM. I am sure we will take India- Japan ties to newer heights.”
