Cops shot at, beaten up by goons

At least three policemen were beaten up and fired upon by a dozen alleged hoodlums when the former stopped three of them for checking in Adarsh Nagar area of north district late Sunday night.

According to the police, the incident took place when three cops, identified as Amit, Dinesh and Rajendra, stopped three men for checking at police picket near the Metro station. After questionin­g, they were let off with a warning. However, a few minutes later they returned along with nine other men in one car, one scooter and one motorcycle and opened fire at the cops. Fortunatel­y, bullets didn’t hit them, but the assailants beat up the three policemen, injuring one of them seriously. The service revolver of constable Amit was also snatched by one of the assailants, which is still missing.

The police said that another police patrolling team nearby heard the commotion and reached the spot. As the assailants tried to escape the spot, three of them, identified as Arvind, Surendra and Kamal, were caught.

A case of attempt- to- murder has been registered at the Adarsh Nagar police station and further investigat­ions are on.

The police has found that the arrested accused were involved in criminal activities earlier also. Teams have been sent to arrest the remaining culprits, who have been identified by the police.

Senior police officers have taken stock of this incident as it exhibits fearlessne­ss in criminals these days. In the past two months, there have been at least three such incidents wherein the cops have been targeted by the assailants during patrolling picket checking.

and In a bid to encourage the party workers who worked tirelessly during the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP will now conduct an audit of party workers and reward them for their good work. Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan said that this exercise would help the party strengthen the organisati­on.

“The party workers who performed well with their full might would be rewarded. They are those people who dedicated themselves tirelessly for the party cadre. They should be rewarded in the best manner as they gave their best foot forward towards the party leadership and its vision and direction,” said the state unit president.

Also the Delhi BJP is set to undergo a major organisati­onal reshuffle in the post- election scenario.

If re- elections to the Assembly are held in the city, the BJP restructur­ing would play an important role in assigning crucial seats to the party workers, giving them a boost to perform in the Assembly polls. “The reshufflin­g would surely help in assessing and enhancing party’s performanc­e. Those who performed would be certainly rewarded,” said Dr Vardhan.

The new compositio­n of party teams and officebear­ers would very likely be dominated by a team of Dr Vardhan’s own trusted lieutenant­s, sources said. Delhi BJP leaders met Rajnath Singh on Monday.
