Police writes to MHA for more DG- level officers

- MOHIT SHARMA

The Delhi police has reportedly written to the Union home ministry to increase the sanctioned strength for DG- level officers deputed in the city from two to five. The proposal was sent a few weeks ago.

Sources said that the strength for ADG- level officers would also go up if the proposal gets a nod from the home ministry. “At present, two director- generallevel officers and 12- 15 additional director- generals are allowed to stay in Delhi. If our proposal is accepted, the ADGs’ strength would also go up to over 15,” a top Delhi police official said.

Sources said that increase has been sought to accommodate few key officials who are due to be transferred to other states as their tenure in Delhi has come to an end.

“Every IPS officer has to spend a fixed tenure outside Delhi as per the rulebook for which they are routinely transferred,” the top official added. Currently, the Delhi police has about 11 special commissioners of police ( ADG) rank officials out of which two — special commissioner ( crime) Dharmendra Kumar and special commissioner ( law & order) Deepak Mishra — have recently been promoted to DG rank.

“As per the proposals, the three new DG- level vacancies in Delhi could create an additional special commissioner ( law & order) and a special commissioner supervising all ranges,” the sources said.

Senior police officers said that the decision will be taken by the new BJP government under prime ministership of Mr Narendra Modi. “A lot would depend on who becomes the home minister in the new cabinet,” a source said, adding that, “The force is expected to see a few major changes too once the new government takes over.”
