L- G calls for strict action against tax defaulters
Delhi’s lieutenant- governor Najeeb Jung on Wednesday directed “strict” action against tax evaders and defaulters, and ordered the Tax Identification Number ( TIN) be used across the departments as a unique identifier to prevent tax evasion.
Directing the trade and taxes department to make maximum use of information technology to make the entire process of registration of firms and filing of returns paperless, provide facilities for online filing with digital signatures, Mr Jung said the process would prevent inconvenience to people and make the filing facilities available 24X7.

tion of FIR, cancellation of registration, sealing of bank accounts, reversal and recovery of the tax evaded shall be done,” the lieutenant- governor said.
Instructing the department to improve its office so that the people coming to the office have a “pleasant experience,” Mr Jung noted: “The practice of bringing unaccounted goods through the railways was highlighted and it was decided that strict action against such traders shall be taken.” The Excise Commissioner was instructed to ensure 100 per cent implementation of Excise Supply Chain Information Management System (ESCIMS) at all levels and take strict action against tax evaders.
Mr Jung issued the directives while taking an “intensive” review of the city administration, who along with chief secretary S. K. Srivastava reviewed the functioning of nine departments that included trade and taxes, excise, entertainment and luxury tax, transport, environment and forest, higher education, training & technical education, information technology, labour and employment, art, culture, language and tourism.
“The chief secretary directed the transport department to immediately improve the basic amenities at ISBT Anand Vihar and was also directed to expedite the process of construction of new building of the ISBT,” a senior government official said.
