Simran Bagga is recognised as one of South India’s most prolific actresses; growing from a talented young dancer to a ravishing glam queen of the masses and a powerhouse performer over the course of her career. The iconic star of the 1990s got married in 2003 to her childhood sweetheart Deepak, and now juggles her career between the silver screen and being a homemaker!

Recently, she made news with a cameo in Aaha Kalyanam ( the Tamil remake of Band Baaja Baaraat ) that set audiences into a frenzy about her impending comeback. What is going on with the beautiful mother of two, we wondered when we spoke to her.

“Our family has just returned from London a few days ago! My husband and I are both travel aficionados. Travelling is education and it’s a perfect way to de- stress. In fact, this is the most prominent part of my life outside work. Most memorable was a tour of the Harry Potter Studios in Hertfordshire that the kids really enjoyed. We had also travelled to the US recently, and got to check out Bluewater Lake, Disney World in Florida and so on. I’m a huge nature- lover, so next up on the list is Greenland for some adventure with my hubby!” she smiles. The family’s biggest pleasure is jet- setting off randomly into the sunshine, to Singapore, Australia or the UK — their most- frequented places. Simran, who says she was the first Indian actress to shoot in New Zealand for a Bollywood film, also admits she’s lucky that her husband is in the airline industry, “Given a chance, he would take a vacation every weekend! But we teach our kids the importance of spending time outside the house and not being addicted to the TV or video games. Discipline is very important for children. Deepak and I make time for each other too. Anybody can be a couple, but it’s important to be each other’s life partner. We enjoy a fun night out ever so often — just the two of us.”

Though her two sons, Adheepodo ( age eight) and Aaditveer ( age three) take up a lot of their time, the actress adds that Deepak is as romantic as ever, “Do you know he was a veggie and converted to non- vegetarian, because I bugged him to? I consider that the most romantic thing he has done for me! ( laughs) He has pampered me with gifts, but my favourite gift is that he always remembers to get me my preferred shade of Chanel lipstick without fail.” The couple has also begun their own production company and are currently gearing up to showcase the second season of Dance Tamizha Dance . “He’s someone who gets frustrated, a one- man army who lives life on his terms always — it’s my responsibility to keep him calm,” she beams. Simran concludes, “You’ll see me in a movie under my own production banner.”
