BJP sweeps Haryana, creates history

The BJP has managed to capture Haryana by getting a majority in the Assembly elections after winning 47 seats in the 90- seat Assembly. The saffron party created history by winning Haryana for the first time in the electoral history of the state.

The ruling Congress suffered a huge setback as it managed to win only 15 seats, finishing third behind the INLD, which managed to win only 19 seats. The BJP had contested all seats in the state for the first time and managed to put up an impressive show in all regions. Its candidate Umesh Aggrawal defeated his nearest rival of the INLD by a record margin of 84,000, which is the highest in the state.

Interestin­gly, Jai Thirth of the Congress in Rai constituen­cy defeated Inderjeet of the INLD by a margin only three votes, the lowest in the state.

The victory in Haryana is considered significan­t for the BJP, keeping in view that in never won more than 16 seats in the electoral history of the state and most of candidates fielded were not very well- known faces in the political arena of Haryana.

Amongst the prominent winners, chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda managed won his Garhi Sampla- Kiloi by over 47,000 votes. Haryana ministers Randeep Surjewala and Kiran Chaudhary won from Kaithal and Toshan constituen­cies, respective­ly.

Abhay Chautala of the INLD won from Ellanbad constituen­cy. His sister- inlaw Naina Chautala won from Dabwali constituen­cy. However, Dushyant Chautala, grandson of Om Parkash Chautala, who is also an MP, lost from Ucchan Kala constituen­cy to Prem Lata of the BJP, who is the wife of Birender Chaudhary, a prominent Jat leader.
