Yet another Delhi cop was assaulted just a day after city police commissioner B. S. Bassi termed the recent spate of attacks on cops as a coincidence. Mr Bassi had said on Monday that facing these attacks was a part of job for the police personnel.

In the latest incident, a group of advocates beat up a head constable, outside Outer Delhi’s Rohini court, on Monday morning.

According to the police, head constable Santosh, posted in the traffic wing, stopped a car which was coming from the wrong side on a one- way road on Monday morning, just outside Gate No. 4 of the Rohini court.

“Santosh asked them to turn around and take the right way. However, the car occupants, about four in number, did not allegedly pay any heed and started arguing with the head constable,” said the police, adding, “When Santosh didn’t allow them to go ahead, they got out of the car and allegedly beat him up.”

Santosh, in his statement, said that he was beaten up by the occupants of the car with the wireless set he was carry- ing. The police added that a few passers- by intervened after which the advocates left the spot in their car and a PCR call was made.

Santosh was taken to a nearby hospital from where he was discharged after preliminary medication. His medical examination was done as well and an FIR under relevant sections was registered at the Rohini police station on the basis of the head constable’s statement. No one has been arrested for the assault as yet.

“We are trying to identify the people who hit the cop and will take appropriate action,” said a senior police officer.

On the other hand, the advocates from the Rohini court alleged that it was Santosh who started misbehaving with them.
