City traders on a high as shoppers throng markets

Delhi wore a festive look on Tuesday with most city markets decked up and residents thronging for Dhanteras shopping. The shop owners were seen offering attractive offers to woo clients with gold jewellery and metal utensils seemingly among the high draws this festive season.

Dhanteras is considered to be the auspicious time to purchase new goods, especially gold, jewellery and utensils. Delhiites were seen busy making final purchases and arrangemen­ts for the Diwali festival on Thursday. The entire city has virtually been lighten up and decorated with colourful and sparkling decorative. Exquisite wall- hangings, sparking Chinese lights, traditiona­l handmade chandelier­s, lampshades and earthen diyas are major attraction­s for shoppers.

Festive enthusiasm, that has gripped the city for the past week, seemed to be now reaching its climax with prime shopping places witnessing big rush. From petty decorative items to exquisite gifts, from lights and lamps to sweets, people seem all set to welcome Diwali.

Ahead of the Diwali cel- ebration, arrangemen­ts for Diwali melas are being made all across the major gathering points, including colonies, clubs, parks, etc.

Delhi Haat also organises a Diwali Utsav with special stalls selling decorative items for Diwali, idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi, especially designed thaalis ( large plates) for Diwali as well as ethnic outfits.

The city administra­tion has also made elaborate arrangemen­ts ahead of this important Hindu festival. The administra­tion has issued several directives and suggestion­s for safe festive celebratio­ns.
