THE NEW CLASS OF LAZY LOVERS

- DR NARAYANA REDDY

TAKING STOCK Arun was confronted by his wife, Arathi. “Of late you are not showing any interest in me. Every time you give an excuse of being exhausted. I don’t believe you. Tell me why?” she questioned. What she does not realise is that Arun is telling the truth. Every morning he has to travel 40 km to his office which is in the outskirts. He has to leave home at 7 am and returns home by 8.30 pm and by the time he reaches home he is dog tired. All that he wants is to eat and sleep. In an era of men falling asleep before attempting sex or after sex, here’s a new breed of men, falling asleep even while having sex!

Ask them why and they reply — tired! The IT sector, call centers and MNCs have bred a new class of men, the lazy lovers! Chronic over- scheduling, overwork, stress, travelling, meeting deadlines, etc. are an intrinsic part of urban life. Physical exhaustion alone cannot be blamed here, mental exhaustion is equally treacherous. It is also not gender oriented, but it’s often the man who is targeted as he is the one who has to rise to the occasion and not the woman. Last things first: Do not attempt sex at night as a last thing after a hard day at work. Try it first thing in the morning or when you feel refreshed and charged. Make an appointment: In real life spontaneous sex is more an exception than a rule. Work to make it happen. Expectancy adds a zing. Don’t binge: Making love after a heavy meal may actually be disastrous. Try room- service: Try and have frequent vacations. You will actually find your zeal resurfacing. Medicheck: Have periodic check- ups. Sometimes overwork alone may not be the cause. It may be the hallmark of other health defects. The writer is a sexologist. Mail him at dr. narayana@ dec
