The Asian Age

Dated visuals at a high price

Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition might have its plus points, but it doesn’t live up to the hype OVERALL 7.5

- ISHAAN ARYA

Another classic has made its way to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 with a Definitive Edition but this time I’m left with mixed views. I’m

talking about Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition of course.

I skipped the game when the original came out, but unfortunately the first thing that stood out was how dated the visuals look. Even if it was made over 2 years you do expect something a little special with a definitive edition; Sleeping Dogs doesn’t quite hit the spot. The shortcomings don’t end there with frequent frame rate drops taking the game well below 20- 25 fps at times making it almost painful to play through for a few seconds, but at most times its alright so long as you’re not a stickler for 1080p 60fps.

What Sleeping Dogs does really well is its story and setting. Players will get sucked into the world of the triads as they engage in a turf war for the ages across Hong Kong. At first I was quite shocked at the poor presentation of the ‘ definitive edition’ but I found myself unable to tear myself away from my controller as I worked my way up the hierarchy with conflicted opinions of my colleagues and our actions. While the game is not the ideal Definitive Edition, it is a good addition to the new generation games library especially for those who missed the game last time around. The fact that it comes with all the DLC’s makes it even more enticing, however I would recommend waiting for a price drop before you pick up the game unless you have cash to splash of course.

STRENGTHS The world of the triads will suck you in.

Combat is familiar and spot on. Comes with all the Sleeping Dogs DLC

missions. WEAKNESSES

Visuals look nothing like a Definitive Edition.
