Minimum wage is hiked to 9,048/ m
Delhi labour minister Gopal Rai on Wednesday said that the revision of minimum wages would be enforced from Wednesday and the minimum wages for unskilled category will be ` 9,048 per month.
Mr Rai also introduced a new pension scheme for the unorganised sector workers. He said the scheme, Dilli Swavalamban Yojna, was the part of the welfare work that his government was doing for people.
“As the government’s contribution, we have handed over ` 56 lakh to the representatives of PFRDA. This will provide the domestic workers social security,” he said.
Mr Rai said that a jan sunwai ( public hearing) will also be conducted on April 24 to hear the grievances of contractual labourers to ensure them minimum wages. Details of licensed agencies are being collected, so as to monitor their performance and ensure benefits to the contractual labourers.
The city’s department of labour will organise camps for registration of construction labourers from April 20. After registration, the construction labourers will get various benefits from the welfare fund set up for them.
Unorganised workers in the age group of 18- 60 years are eligible under this scheme. The eligible beneficiary contributes a minimum of ` 1,000 per annum, subject to a maximum of ` 12,000 per annum, which can be paid in instalments of ` 100.
The Central government also contributes ` 1,000 per beneficiary per annum for four years only. The Delhi government will contribute ` 1,000 per beneficiary per annum for 25 years.
