- NAYEAR AZAD

Kidnapping for ransom, once a thriving industry in Bihar, seems to have returned after almost a decade, the latest victim being a Gaya- based physician Pankaj Gupta and his wife. Though there is no official confirmation about family of the missing doctor receiving any ransom call, but sources said police is investigating the case from the angle of kidnapping for ransom.

“A team has been deployed in Barachatti while a separate team is investigating the case and we hope to crack the case soon but as of now, there is no information of any ransom call from the kidnappers,” Gaya senior superintendent of police P. Kannan said.

The doctor community, eagerly waiting for the safe release of Dr Gupta and his wife, are in fear and seeking the government’s attention towards the falling law- and- order condition of the state. The Indian Medical Association, Bihar Chapter, said such incidents stopped after the RJD was defeated.
