Cop who killed senior was angry over probe

- PARTH SATAM

Exasperated over the inquiry into an allegedly “misused” sick leave in late 2012 and senior PI Vilas Joshi’s dogged pursuance into the probe, ASI Dilip Shirke had reportedly told his wife four days ago, in a fit of rage, that he would kill the cop if the harassment did not end, sources from Shirke’s friends circle in the department said.

His family, however, partly corroborated the same, agreeing that while he often complained at home about his seniors, he did not threaten to kill anyone.

According to a crime branch officer, Shirke told his wife around four days ago that he had “had enough” and would eliminate Joshi if the “harassment” continued. “Mi ata hyala marnar jar jasta zhaala tar ( I will kill him if this continues),” an enraged Shirke was quoted as saying to his wife Dipti by the officer.

The bane of Shirke’s peace was a 28 to 30- day sick leave he had taken towards the end of 2012. This was later being probed into by his superiors after they suspected him having lied about the illness and initiated an inquiry.

This later translated into a showcause notice being issued to Shirke by DCP ( zone 8) Virendra Mishra. “The inquiry would jeopardise his annual increment,” the officer said.
