COP, BROTHER GET LIFE FOR MURDER BID

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

A Delhi court has awarded five years jail term to a 53year- old Delhi police constable and his brother and

also imposed a fine of 1

` lakh on each of the convicts for trying to kill a 35- yearold man, who suffered permanent disability after they attacked him with a stone.

The accused had argued that the victim was trying to

grab their property and hence he had falsely impli

cated him in the case. However, the court rejected their contention saying no ordinary man will think to

encroach upon a land belonging to a Delhi police personnel. The court handed down the jail term to police

man Nathu Ram and his brother Virender, 40, while relying on testimonies of victim Vineet Kumar, his father and uncle, who had seen the duo assaulting him.

“The prosecution has proved that the accused hit the victim with the stone due to which he suffered severe injuries and became

physically disabled,” the court noted. The court also rejected the “on- duty” alibi

taken by Nathu.
