Team Modi in blitz to promote ‘ achchhe din’

Unlike UPA, govt visible, graft- free: Shah

-

With the “Modi sarkar” completing one year in power, the government on Tuesday unleashed a massive publicity blitz across the nation. If Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote a letter to the nation listing the government’s achievements, all top leaders — ranging from BJP president Amit Shah and Union home minister Rajnath Singh to other Union ministers, MPs and MLAs — held rallies, meetings and press conferences across the country to talk about “achchhe din”.

With Congress vice- president Rahul Gandhi trying to re- emerge as the main face of the Opposition, Union HRD minister Smriti Irani took the battle straight to his home turf, Amethi. In a move to keep Mr Gandhi confined to Amethi, Ms Irani described the people of Amethi as “mera parivar ( my family)”. The Prime Minister also met President Pranab Mukherjee and vice- president Hamid Ansari on the occasion of the first anniversary of his government. The PM also interacted with PMO officials and said his experience had been that “government functionaries and the common man think alike, and, if given the right atmosphere, the government machinery can deliver results for the common man.” He also interacted with staff members at BJP headquarters in the evening. He enquired about an old driver of the party as well as some others of his time. Ministries are also expected to come out with booklets listing their achievements.

BJP president Amit Shah, who addressed the media

Continued from Page 1 on the occasion, described the NDA government as a “visible, pro- active and corruption- free” government, unlike the previous UPA regime. However, when asked about his party’s plans on its core issues, like a Ram temple at Ayodhya and Article 370 of the Constitution, given that the saffron party now has a majority, Mr Shah said they required 370 MPs, a two- thirds majority, to implement them. “We still do not have the majority needed for ( executing) core issues,” Mr Shah said.

On the black money issue, Mr Shah asserted that his party is committed to taking legal steps to bring back black money stashed abroad and that no one would be spared. He also attacked those who wanted the names of holders of unaccounted money in foreign banks disclosed and termed them as “counsel” for those who generate black money as disclosing names would be a violation of international treaties.

Mr Shah listed a host of initiatives taken by the Modi government in the past year, including the Jan Dhan Yojana, strengthening the federal structure, Mudra banks and the “Make in India” initiative.

He said the BJP will share the Modi government’s “successes” of one year by organising a total of 4,413 public meetings till June 1.

The BJP president also launched a booklet, brought out in 12 languages, listing the government’s achievements so far.
