Atmosphere of Partition days has come back: Cong

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

The Congress on Tuesday said the nation is “betrayed” by the “broken promises and boastful claims” of the Narendra Modi government which has shattered dreams of crores of people.

It feared that the provocative statements and divisive strategy of the BJP and the Sangh Parivar leaders in the last one year is creating tensions in the society similar to that of pre- Partition days in 1947.

The main Opposition party came out with a 42page booklet Ek Saal — Desh Badhaal ( One year, country in distress), reviewing the performance of the Modi government in the last 365 days and the promises Mr Modi had made during the campaign in the Lok Sabha elections held in 2014.

The leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, the AICC’s communication department in- charge Randeep Surjewala released the booklet in the presence of party officials at the AICC headquarters here.

Alleging that the communal atmosphere witnessed during days of the Partition has made a comeback since the Narendra Modi government came to power exactly a year ago, Mr Azad said, “There has been a huge tension and polarisation. Such tension was never seen in the last 60- 65 years after the Partition of the country.”

The booklet said Mr Modi along with the BJP- RSS combine “captured power” by using all tactics and tools, including derailing the pro- people legislative agenda of the Congress- led UPA government and a targeted campaign to spread innuendoes and untruths. He undertook the “most expensive campaign ever in the history of democratic India supported by big money”.

The party document reviewed performance of the Modi government in agriculture, black money, social sector, economic mismanagement, defence, HRD, environment and foreign policy asking the Prime Minister to tell clearly when will achchhe din come.

“Mr Modi is speaking of how bure din ( bad days) had gone after the defeat of the UPA but not talking of good days”, Congress leaders reminded.

Mr Azad said that the last one year witnessed a “vicious” campaign by the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Sangh Parivar with several Union ministers and BJP leaders making controversial statements one after another. But Mr Modi did not act against a single minister and this tells its own story.
