Coming to the defence of

Kolkata mayor Sovan Chatterjee’s niece Debapriya

Chatterjee, chief minister Mamata Banerjee described the manhandlin­g of the onduty traffic police constable by the young woman an act

of a “little girl”. She also questioned the decision of the cop: Chandan Pande to seize her driving licence.

Ms Banerjee statement came during the Zero Hour

in the House of the Assembly when Congress MLA Manas Bhuniya drew her attention to her home department’s issues soon after the Left Front MLAs

led by leader of the Opposition Surjyakant­a Mishra staged a walkout from the House alleging interferen­ce in police administra­tion, including the incident, which was rejected by Speaker Biman Banerjee for discussion. Without taking

the name of the mayor’s niece the chief minister said, “An incident took place in Kolkata with the little girls.

So why would the police seize the licence? The police is investigat­ing the inci

dent.”
