Ansari, Gupta star for Mahajan XI
Half centuries from Sultan Ansari and Arjun Gupta helped Mahajan XI Meerut defeat Mata Ved Solanki Club, Najafgarh, by five wickets in a preliminary group match of the 42nd all- India Goswami Ganesh Dutt Memorial cricket tournament in the capital on Tuesday.
Ansari, who took home the man of the match award, scored an unbeaten 72 off just 45 balls with the help of eight boundaries and three sixes. Gupta ( 50) was also in good form, smashing five boundaries and a six during his 72- ball stint as Mahajan XI overhauled the 227- run target in 33.4 overs.
Mayank Rawat picked up a cou- ple of wickets for Ved Solanki Club.
Earlier, Ved Solanki Club won the toss and decided to bat. The decision came back to haunt them as they lost their first five wickets for just 76 runs in 16.3 overs. However, good batting from skipper Dinesh Mor ( 94 n. o.) and Anuj Rawat ( 63) enabled them to post 227/ 7 in 40 overs.
Varun Anand ( 3/ 36) bowled well for Mahajan XI.
