The police sources investigating the case said that the bomb could have been sent on Monday evening with an intention to cause more harm, but fortunately the leader was not at home when the incident occurred.

“We can’t say anything at this stage as we are still investigating the case. The bomb had wires attached to it and the person who opened it spotted those wires, by the time he could react, the bomb went off killing him and injuring another one,” SSP Gaya Manu Maharaj said.

Incident occurred at the ancestral house of the JD( U) leader at Kujati village of Gaya district. The district is Naxal- affected and was put under high alert after Naxals had called for a two days bandh.

The incident has sent a wave of fear and shock among other leaders in Bihar, the sources said the leaders are also planning to demand adequate security cover during election campaigning for themselves.
