AMMA ON WARPATH

AFTER HER swearing- in ceremony at the Madras University campus, Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa cleared a slew of welfare schemes worth over ` 1,800 crore. This follows the branding exercise undertaken by the AIADMK government in the beginning of its five- year term wherein subsidised food was served at “Amma Canteens”, making the masses relate to Ms Jayalalithaa as a maternal figure. Slammed as “freebies”, the “Amma” branding exercises are no different from the previous DMK government’s distribution of free colour TVs. The public should not be swayed by these.
