Techie quits job to join police force

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

A software engineer in Sultanpur has given up a lucrative job with an annual package of ` 18 lakhs to keep up the family tradition and join the police force.

Vineet Misra’s father Vijay Pratap Misra died on duty in 2014 while trying to control clashes between two groups.

His father’s death changed Mr Misra’s plans and he decided to carry forward the family tradition and join the force.

“My uncle, Kapil Muni Misra, was in the police force and he was killed in an attack on the Gangaghat police station in 1984 in Unnao district. My cousin Ghanshyam Misra got a job in the police force after his death,” he said. When he informed his family of his decision to quit the job, he was dissuaded. His family members said that he was getting a good salary and the police force salary, in comparison, was too little. Besides, he would have to work round the clock and not get leave too.

“I told my friends and family members that I would prefer a much lower salary because it would bring honour and respect with it. Besides, I want to keep up the family tradition,” he said.

Earlier this week, when UP CM Akhilesh Yadav honoured the family of those who had been martyred on duty, Mr Misra’s mother Madhuri Misra was among them.

“After my mother returned with the medal, I told her that I may get more money elsewhere but I will never get this kind of honour in any other job,” he said and added his mother now approves of his decision.
