Nov. 2011: Congress leader Nabam Tuki takes charge as CM of Arunachal Pradesh. His brother Nabam Rebia takes charge as the Speaker. Dec. 2014: Tuki drops state health and family welfare minister Kalikho Pul during the Cabinet reshuffle April 2015: Pul alleges financial mismanagement within the government. Congress expels him alleging anti- party activity. Nov. 2015: Troubles mount for the Congress in Arunachal Pradesh as 21 MLAs, who were opposed to the leadership of Tuki, decide to skip a Congress Legislature Party ( CLP) meeting. Dec. 2015: Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa advances the Assembly session from January 14, 2016 to December 16, 2015. Rajkhowa takes the decision without consulting Tuki. Dec. 16, 2015: 20 Congress dissident MLAs, along with 11 from the BJP and two Independents, impeach Speaker Rebia. Dec. 17, 2015: A no- confidence motion is brought by BJP legislators against the Tuki- led government and the motion is adopted. Pul is elected the leader of the legislative party. Jan. 5, 2016: HC stays disqualification of 14 Cong MLAs Jan. 6, 2016: SC agrees to hear plea of Arunachal Speaker, removed by rebel MLAs Jan. 14, 2016: SC refers Arunachal issue to Constitution Bench Jan 15, 2016: SC starts examining constitutional scope of discretionary powers of the governor Jan. 24, 2016: Taking cognisance of the turmoil in the state, the Union Cabinet recommends President’s Rule in Arunachal Pradesh Feb. 2016: President’s Rule is revoked. Congress rebel leader Pul is sworn in as chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh with the support of 20 rebel legislators of the Congress and 11 of the BJP. July 13, 2016: SC terms governor’s decision unconstitutional, orders restoration of Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh July 14, 2016: Acting governor of Arunachal Pradesh Tathagata Roy asks chief minister Tuki to prove his majority on the floor of the Assembly by July 16, 2016 July 15, 2016: Tuki meets Roy to seek postponement of the floor test by at least 10 days. Roy rejects Tuki’s plea for deferring floor test slated for July 16. July 16, 2016: Tuki resigns, a few hours ahead of the much- anticipated floor test. Pema Khandu, son of former chief minister Dorjee Khandu, is elected as the chief of the CLP.
