CM lauds deputy for ‘ mega PTM’

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

In a first, parents of around 16 lakh students in over 2,500 government schools in the city on Saturday attended a “mega Parents- Teacher Meeting ( PTM) organised to bring the quality of education at par with that imparted in private schools.

From bad handwriting to poor calculations, improper usage of grammar to lack of concentration, good speed to excellent leadership skills, parents were updated about shortcomings and positives of their wards in the meeting, perhaps the first in country for government schools.

Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal praised his deputy Manish Sisodia for organising the PTMs at such a huge scale. “Congrats Manish for organising Mega PTM in govt schools. Very heart warming stories coming from various schools,” Mr Kejriwal tweeted.

Though rain played a dampener in many schools during the morning hours, the parents later queued up at the governmentrun schools across the city to get feedback of their wards’ performance. Mr Sisodia, who also holds the education portfolio, visited several schools to see if all was in order and how the parents were responding to this initiative.

“Today PTMs have been organised in all government schools and parents of 16 lakh students have been invited to attend the meeting. This is a new experiment and parents are excited about the fact that they are being involved in the schooling of their children. This is another step towards bringing the quality of education being imparted in government schools at par with that of private schools,” Mr Sisodia said.

Mr Sisodia had asserted earlier this week that the initiative seeks to make the parents of the students of the government schools as “stakeholders” of education by initiating a positive dialogue between the parents and the teachers. While senior officials of the education department including directors, deputy directors, and assistant directors have been directed to hold a meeting with parents of government schools’ students from 12 pm to 1 pm on every Friday to address their issues, the mega PTM will be held twice a year.
