VARUN UPSET AS DISHOOM BANNED IN PAK

- AGE CORRESPONDENT

Bollywood has had a difficult relationship with Pakistan. While the country has been a good business territory for movies like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, it has also caused all kinds of problems for others such as Phantom. The latest to bear the brunt of Pakistan’s unpredictable stands on movies is John Abraham and Varun Dhawan’s buddy- cop flick, Dishoom, which has apparently been banned in the country. The ban has been issued just a few days after reports surfaced of a blanket ban on Indian movies in the country in reaction to the ongoing Kashmir row.

The film, which also stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Akshaye Khanna and Nargis Fakhri, has opened to critical and commercial success, thanks primarily to its high entertainment quotient.

The ban, supposedly over Pakistan being shown in bad light, has ensured that the movie won’t reach its Pakistani audience, who constitute a major fanbase for Bollywood.

Evidently upset over the ban, Varun Dhawan reacted on Twitter and clarified that the movie doesn’t show Pakistan in a bad light. In his tweet, Varun had expressed, “Really upset that # Dishoom is banned in pakistan. I don’t think the film eventually shows any country in a bad light. It’s a wrong decision ( sic).” The actor had previously maintained, “I would like to clear this once and for all. There is no negative reference to Pakistan or any community. It is in fact a very positive representation. He further adds, “What we are trying to show is that for certain people money is the dominant religion. It’s not being an Indian, Pakistani, Hindu, Muslim or Christian. In the capitalistic world that we live in, money is the biggest driving force for most crimes.”
